Loose yourself in culture and science. The Fred Jones
Jr. Museum of Art is one the nation’s finest university
art museums, featuring Van Gogh, Degas, Renoir, Monet
and more. It also houses the passionate side of
Oklahoma’s Native American photography with an exhibit
that captures the romance of the North American Indian.
The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History tells
the story of more than 500 million years of Oklahoma’s
fascination history. Check out the six breathtaking
galleries including the world’s largest Apatosaurus and
a Guinness-World-Record-holding Pentaceratops. You can
also experience the weather like never before at the
National Weather Center. Go behind the scenes and see
state-of-the-art technology in action while you speak
with meteorologist and tour live workstations.
Norman boasts great annual events year round. The
Medieval Fair features over 200 arts and craft booths,
food concessions, games, a vast array of entertainment
including brightly costumed performers, camel and
elephant rides and a hand-cranked medieval swing
carousel. The Norman Music Festival features seven
stages of live music in the heart of downtown Norman in
the arts district. The May Fair Arts Festival features
over 100 artists and is the past winner of the Pinnacle
Gold Award in Children’s Programming. The Firehouse
Chocolate Festival, as seen on The Food Network, is
always a treat with its chocolate art and sweet samples.
Jazz in June is just another reason to heat up the
Norman summer nights. Come listen to renowned jazz
musicians up close and outdoors.
Sports fans are well aware of the Sooner dominance in
sports and the University of Oklahoma. Visit the Switzer
Center, showcasing the history of Sooner Football and
Heisman Park features bronze statues of the four Heisman
Trophy winners. Soon to be unveiled is the 5th Heisman
Trophy Winner, Sam Bradford’s statue. OU’s campus is
also a great place to enjoy a walking tour to take in
the beautiful gardens and Campus Corners is a quaint
getaway to enjoy some local eateries and shopping.
