PLAINFIELD, Ind. (March 5, 2010) - Medline Industries Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment and supplies, announced that it has established a distribution center here, creating 50 new jobs.
The company, which produces and distributes health care supplies and equipment to hospitals, nursing homes, home health providers and surgery centers, has leased a 180,000 square-foot facility near the Indianapolis International Airport.
"Despite a slow national economy, Indiana continues to establish itself as a hub for job growth and investment in the logistics industry," said Governor Mitch Daniels. "By choosing Indiana as the home of its newest distribution center, Medline is showing its confidence in the business environment and quality workforce in our state."
Medline, which employs nearly 6,000 people in North America, initiated distribution operations at the new facility and has hired 50 local residents to fill the positions needed to serve its customers in the region.
"Central
Indiana has a terrific workforce with a proud history and work ethic that will help make this a world-class facility," said Bill Abington, Medline's president of operations. "Plainfield is centrally located which allows us to easily and quickly distribute our products and services to our health care customers throughout the state of Indiana and nearby areas."
Officially founded in 1966, Medline's history dates back more than 100 years when the business originated as Northwestern Garment Factory in Chicago. Today, Illinois-based Medline operates 10 manufacturing facilities and 35 distribution centers, delivering more than 100,000 different products to the health care marketplace.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Medline Industries Inc. up to $210,000 in performance-based tax credits and $6,000 in training grants based on the company's job creation plans. The town of Plainfield will provide additional property tax abatement at the request of the Hendricks County Economic
Development Partnership.
"Medline is a great addition to Plainfield's ever expanding medical cluster that includes Becton Dickinson, Siemens, Covidien, Eli Lilly and AMS Production Machining," said Robin G. Brandgard, president of the Plainfield Town Council.
Medline's announced expansion comes just more than two weeks after medical device developer, Vortek Surgical, LLC, announced it would invest more than $10.7 million to relocate and expand its headquarters in nearby Brownsburg, creating more than 60 new jobs.
